ReutersCopyright: Reuters
According to data specialists Gracenote, Brazil are the favourites to win the 2022 World Cup with a 20% chance of lifting the trophy on 18 December. Brazil have lost just three times in 50 matches since being eliminated from the 2018 World Cup by Belgium.
Argentina have a 16% chance of becoming world champions for the first time since 1986. Since losing to France at the 2018 World Cup, Argentina have lost four matches but the team is unbeaten for over three years, since a 2-0 defeat by Brazil in July 2019.

Roythboy: On form it’s probably Brazil or France. Interesting that after all the climate change posturing, England and Wales went by separate plane. Hypocrisy rules and will be the real winner of this World Cup.

Iran’s turbulent build-up
Pooria Jafereh
BBC Persian

In Iran’s final home match before the World Cup – a friendly against Nicaragua played in Tehran behind closed doors – many players refused to sing the national anthem, with the exception of two who had previously publicly supported the regime.
It makes for an extraordinarily charged build-up to the World Cup for Iran and its football fans. What will happen if Iran’s players again refuse to sing the national anthem, or perform some other kind of protest in view of the cameras in Qatar? What will they do if they score?
